About Brindo Bashi O
Brindo Bashi O — A Neighbourhood Durga Puja
Brindo Bashi O is a community Durga Puja in Kolkata, organised by local residents as a barowari celebration. Clubs such as this one are typical of the city's countless paras, where a small group sustains the annual worship of the goddess through volunteer effort.
The puja follows the traditional five-day calendar, with the clay idol prepared in Kumartuli and worshipped from Shashthi to Vijaya Dashami. Neighbourhood pujas like Brindo Bashi O keep the festival intimate and community-focused, even as larger thematic pandals draw citywide crowds.
- Organised by a neighbourhood committee.
- Traditional idol worship and ritual calendar.
- Local cultural programmes and bhog.
As part of Kolkata's Durga Puja — recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage — Brindo Bashi O reflects the grassroots devotion that underpins the city's greatest festival.
