Yatra Sangha (Yatra Shuru Sangha), Baishnabghata — Garia's Crowd-Pulling Community Puja

Yatra Sangha, popularly referred to as Yatra Shulu / Yatra Shuru Sangha, is a well-known community Durga Puja club in Baishnabghata, Garia, in the southern fringes of Greater Kolkata (near the 45 bus stand and Kavi Nazrul Metro). The club sits on Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road at the junction of routes leading to Garia, Patuli and S.C. Mullick Road, making it a familiar landmark for locals.

The name itself is a clue to the club's character: it grew around the neighbourhood's Rathayatra (Yatra) festival, and the annual chariot procession is what gave the club its “Yatra Suru” (the yatra begins) identity. Over time the committee became better known for its Durga Puja. Older residents recall the celebration earlier being called “Pancha Durga,” when five different matri-murtis were worshipped, before the club shifted to the themed-pandal format that is now standard across Kolkata.

In 2026 the club began its 69th Durga Puja with the traditional khuti puja on Ulto Rath, a sign of its deep local roots. Though the scale and budget have fluctuated over the years, the puja retains a strong nostalgia factor and continues to draw sizeable crowds from Garia and beyond, often pairing the festival with an “Ananda Mela” fair on the adjoining ground.
