Badamtala Ashar Sangha, on Nepal Bhattacharjee Street in Kalighat near Kalighat Metro, is one of South Kolkata's heritage pujas, established in 1939 and now in its late-eighties. The club is renowned for thematic ambition — past editions have ranged from Padanka (Footprint), a meditation on Satyajit Ray, to pandemic-era drive-in pujas that reimagined the crowded pandal as a safe, vehicle-based experience.

In 2025 the club continued its tradition of socially resonant themes, and for 2026 it announced Ashar Alo (আশার আলো — "The Light of Hope"), a theme foregrounding optimism and renewal. Badamtala's strength lies in marrying conceptual depth with crowd-pleasing craft: intricate pandal architecture, a striking idol, and a steady stream of visitors from across the city. Its Kalighat location places it firmly on the South Kolkata pandal trail, a short walk from other marquee pujas. For decades the club has been a reliable bellwether of where Kolkata's public-art puja is headed, and its upcoming Ashar Alo promises to extend that lineage with a message of hope.

Kalighat Metro is the nearest railhead, and the club's Nepal Bhattacharjee Street address places it on a walkable loop with 66 Pally, KNBS and Chetla. Badamtala's crowds build steadily from Shashthi, peaking on Ashtami and Navami, so an early-evening visit rewards with shorter queues and better photographs of the pandal's detailing. True to its community roots, the puja serves free bhog and runs a cultural programme that anchors the neighbourhood's festive calendar year after year.
