Babu Bagan Club Sarbojanin — Dhakuria’s Innovative Community Puja

Babu Bagan Club Sarbojanin, in Dhakuria, was founded in 1962 and has grown into one of South Kolkata’s most popular neighbourhood pujas, celebrated for vast, beautifully decorated pandals and a motto of “United We Stand.” The club marked its 59th year in 2025 and remains a fixture of the Dhakuria–Gol Park festival circuit.

Babu Bagan is known for innovative, often subaltern-Bengali themes. In 2023 its pandal was modelled on the “Museum of Jodhpur,” honouring Rajasthan’s cultural heritage through craft and installation. On other occasions the committee has used commemorative coins issued since independence in its decoration, and has been recognised with state government awards for creativity and community engagement.
