Barisha Sarbojanin — A Pillar of the Behala Puja Belt

Barisha Sarbojanin Durgotsab is a prominent community Durga Puja of Paschim Barisha in the Behala region of south Kolkata, centred around the Sakherbazar area. The club is among the established names that give the Barisha–Behala belt its reputation as a dense, competitive puja destination, and its pandal draws visitors from across the southern suburbs each autumn.

The committee's annual celebration follows the full ritual calendar and is known for well-crafted pandals that pull the crowds. The 2025 edition continued the club's tradition of a themed, community-centred puja, with the idol and pandal decor conceived as a single visual experience. Barisha's location along the Sakherbazar metro corridor makes it an accessible and popular stop, and the puja's longevity has made it a point of local identity for the neighbourhood's residents. As with the wider barowari movement — recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019 — the festival here temporarily transforms the para into a shared stage of art, music and worship. The evenings bring queues of devotees and photographers, while the Dashami immersion sends the idol out through streets lined with spectators, closing the five-day celebration in the customary mix of devotion and farewell.
