About Gariahat Hindustan Club Sarbojanin Durgotsab Committee

Gariahat Hindustan Club Sarbojanin — A Women-Led Heritage Puja of South Kolkata

Known locally as Hindusthan Park Sarbojanin, the Gariahat Hindustan Club Sarbojanin Durgotsab Committee was founded in 1931 and remains one of the defining community pujas of the Gol Park–Hindustan Park belt in South Kolkata. Its pandal at 51/1 Hindustan Park, opposite Basanti Devi College and a short walk from the busy Gariahat crossing, draws some of the heaviest footfalls in the neighbourhood every Sharad season.

What sets the club apart is its long-standing women-led organising committee, which has steered the puja toward socially meaningful, inclusive themes rather than spectacle for its own sake. In 2024 the pandal imagined “Kalpo Ritur Golpogatha” (a story of an imagined, conflict-free season), and in 2025 the committee returned with “Lokoj” — a celebration of Bengali rural roots and folk traditions rendered through village crafts, colours and indigenous motifs across the pandal and idol design.

The deity stays rooted in the traditional Ekdalia–Gariahat school of craftsmanship, balancing devotion with a quiet artistic statement. Travel guides routinely group Hindustan Park with Samaj Sebi and Ballygunge Cultural Association as a single must-visit Gariahat cluster, and the puja features year after year in the city’s “must-visit” South Kolkata lists for its warmth, inclusivity and the neighbourhood spirit that has kept it relevant across nine decades.

For pandal-hoppers, Hindusthan Park offers something increasingly rare: a puja that treats theme as message, not decoration — a gentle, reflective counterpoint to the louder installations elsewhere in the city, and a living example of how a para committee can shape the cultural conversation of an entire season.
