Mudiali Club — Metal Pandals and Award-Winning Craft

Mudiali Club, based at Mudiali in the Kalighat belt of south Kolkata, is one of the city's most visited Durga Pujas, established in 1935. The club is especially renowned for its all-metal pandals — structures fabricated almost entirely from wrought iron and sheet metal — a signature that has set it apart on the Kolkata puja map for years and makes the pandal as much an engineering feat as an artistic one.

The committee pairs engineering with artistry. The 2023 theme was Somaroho, 2024 was Trimatrik, and 2025 was Atmashuddhi (আত্মশুদ্ধি, "Self-Purification"). Mudiali regularly draws an enormous footfall — reported in the range of 35–40 lakh (3.5–4 million) visitors across the festival — and has been honoured multiple times with the Asian Paints Sharod Samman, one of the most prestigious puja awards. Its pandal is engineered to handle the crowds while showcasing detailed metalwork, lighting and a traditionally crafted idol, and the club's continuity across nine decades places it among the senior institutions of the city's barowari movement. The festival here follows the classical sequence — from Mahalaya and the advent of the goddess to the Dashami immersion — but it is the pandal's metal architecture that keeps Mudiali on every serious pandal-hopper's itinerary.
