Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha — Questions That Linger
Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha, established in 1972, is a prominent puja near Acropolis Mall in the Rajdanga–East Kolkata township. In its 54th year in 2025, the club presented one of the season’s most talked-about conceptual themes, cementing its place on the city’s pandal map.
The 2025 pandal, “Proshno” (The Question), was conceptualised by Debasis Barui and built around gender stereotypes and the social dilemmas that shape everyday life. Rather than spectacle, the installation invited visitors to sit with uncomfortable questions — a hallmark of the club’s recent turn toward socially reflective storytelling that treats the pandal as a space for dialogue.
Set against the fast-growing neighbourhood off Ruby Crossing, Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha has grown from a local celebration into a destination puja, drawing pandal-hoppers who come for both its craft and its ideas. The committee’s willingness to stage difficult subjects in a festival more often associated with ornament marks it as one of the more ambitious young clubs in the southern belt.
The result is a puja that lingers after the visit: not a single image to be captured and forgotten, but a set of questions that travel home with the viewer. In a crowded field, Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha has found a distinct voice — one that trusts its audience to think, not merely to marvel. It is a comparatively young club that already punches far above its age.
