Santoshpur Lake Pally (SLP) — Creative Durga Puja by the Lake

Santoshpur Lake Pally, popularly known as SLP, is a prominent community Durga Puja on the eastern fringes of south Kolkata, set around the Santoshpur lake area. The club has earned a name for artistic, often experimental pandals that make the most of its lakeside location and open grounds, and it is a regular feature of curated "must-visit" pandal lists for the region.

For 2025 SLP presented the theme Jal Chitra (জল চিত্র, "Water Painting"), an idea well suited to a pandal near water, where reflections and light could be woven into the design. The committee is part of a cluster of popular south-Kolkata pujas that compete on creativity rather than scale, and it regularly draws pandal-hoppers who plan their routes around the area. As with most barowari (community) pujas, the celebration combines the ritual calendar — Mahalaya, Shashthi, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Dashami — with cultural evenings and a busy food-and-crowd scene. The 2019 UNESCO recognition of Kolkata's Durga Puja as Intangible Cultural Heritage sits comfortably on pujas like SLP, where the entire neighbourhood becomes a temporary stage of craft, music and collective devotion. Visitors typically arrive in the evening, when the pandal lighting comes alive and the queues of devotees and photographers lengthen along the lake.
