Singhi Park Sarbojanin — Traditional Idol, Contemporary Canvas
Singhi Park Sarbojanin, on Gariahat Road in Ballygunge’s Dover Terrace, was established in 1941 and is among the most beloved pujas of South Kolkata. The club is celebrated for holding a classical, artistic Durga idol while wrapping it each year in a thoughtfully designed theme pandal — a formula that has kept it popular across more than eight decades.
Over the last decade Singhi Park has become known for narrative pandals that bridge heritage and modernity. Its 2023 installation drew on Rajasthani folk-puppet imagery, while its 2025 effort continued the club’s tradition of pairing a serene, traditional deity with a contemporary social narrative. The pandal’s lighting and interior craft consistently earn it a place on careful pandal-hopping itineraries.
True to the Gariahat belt’s character, Singhi Park balances devotion and design: the idol remains the spiritual centrepiece, and the surrounding structure acts as a canvas for craft and commentary. The result is a puja that feels both familiar and freshly imagined each autumn, respected by older residents and younger visitors alike.
Access is easy — the pandal sits close to the Gariahat market and Dover Terrace, making it a natural waypoint between Ekdalia Evergreen and the Hindusthan Park cluster. Singhi Park’s enduring appeal is precisely this restraint: it does not chase the city’s biggest spectacle, but it reliably delivers one of its most considered ones, where the goddess and the idea behind the pandal are given equal room to breathe.
