Udayan Pally — Barisha's Conceptual Community Puja

Udayan Pally is a community Durga Puja based in Barisha, in the Behala belt of South Kolkata, along the Diamond Harbour Road. Like many paras of Barisha, it is known among pandal-hoppers for thoughtful, concept-driven pandals rather than sheer scale.

In 2012 the club presented a theme built around fertility, crops and trees — a commentary on a 300-year-old Kolkata that was once jungle but has become, in the words of its theme-maker Tarun Dey, a "jungle of concrete." The pandal was dressed with countless lotuses as symbols of nature's power, set against the rapid loss of green cover. Such environmentally reflective concepts have been a recurring thread in the club's presentations, earning quiet admiration from visitors who venture beyond the marquee south-Kolkata pujas.
