About Aurobinda Setu Sarbojanin Durgatsab
Aurobinda Setu Sarbojanin Durgatsab
Aurobinda Setu Sarbojanin Durgatsab is a community Durga Puja in the Ultadanga locality of North Kolkata, organised by residents around the Aurobinda Setu (Aurobindo Setu) crossing. Like many of the paras along the Canal area off Bidhan Nagar Road, it represents the grassroots, neighbourhood-driven strand of Kolkata's puja culture.
The club conducts its annual Durga Puja with the familiar rhythm of a residential para — khuti puja to mark the beginning, a decorated pandal, community prayers and the eventual immersion. While it does not chase the large themed architectures of the award-circuit clubs, it holds steady importance for the local community that gathers around it each autumn.
Ultadanga is best reached via the Bidhan Nagar Road rail station or a short ride from Salt Lake / Lake Town. Visitors interested in the everyday, community face of Durga Puja — rather than the headline pandals — will find Aurobinda Setu representative of how most Kolkata neighbourhoods actually celebrate.
- Area: North Kolkata (Ultadanga, Aurobinda Setu)
