About Azad Hind Bag Sarbojanin Durga Pujo (Hedua Park Durga Puja)
Azad Hind Bag (Hedua Park) Durga Puja — Sabeki Baroari in North Kolkata
Azad Hind Bag, popularly known as the Hedua Park Durga Puja, is one of the oldest pujas of North Kolkata, held in the Manicktala–Hedua area near the Hedua swimming-pool park, a short walk from Kashi Bose Lane and Girish Park Metro. The organising samity preserves the "Sabeki Baroari" style of puja rather than the contemporary "theme puja" format.
The pandal sits beside a fair that springs up in the park each year, adding to the neighbourhood festivity. True to its sabeki character, the puja emphasises traditional rituals, the clay idol and community gathering over spectacle. In 2025 the committee continued its traditional / sabeki approach, maintaining the heritage flavour that has kept generations of locals loyal.
Beyond the religious observance, the Hedua Park puja is a social hub—its organisers have historically paired the festival with community initiatives. It remains a quintessential example of North Kolkata's enduring, understated barowari tradition.
