About Deshbandhu Ladies Park
Deshbandhu Ladies Park
Deshbandhu Ladies Park is a long-established community Durga Puja in the Shyambazar belt of North Kolkata, named after the green alongside Raja Dinendra Street where the locality's residents gather each autumn. Like many of the older North Kolkata paras, it grew out of a neighbourhood club culture that turned household worship into a shared, public celebration.
The puja is organised by local residents and the Deshbandhu Ladies Park committee, and is valued for its community feel rather than large-scale themed architecture. Over the years the pandal has balanced a traditional idol with modest decorative treatments suited to its compact park setting. The locality, close to Shyambazar — one of the great crossroads of North Kolkata's puja map — means the club benefits from steady footfall during the festival.
Visitors combining a North Kolkata pandal walk usually pair Deshbandhu Ladies Park with the larger Shyambazar and Hatibagan pujas nearby. The nearest metro is Shyambazar. Because the space is a neighbourhood park, the experience is intimate: a chance to see how a residential para conducts its puja away from the glare of corporate sponsorship.
