About Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja Samity

Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja Samity — A Pioneer Barowari Puja

Kashi Bose Lane Durga Puja Samity, at 5/1 Kashi Bose Lane in Manicktalla–Darjipara, is one of the oldest "Barowari" (community) pujas of North Kolkata, initiated in 1937. Now in its late 80s, it is regarded as a pioneer of tradition, upholding the true essence of Bengali culture and heritage through its rituals.

The committee begins puja from "Pratipad" and distributes bhog to all visitors from Shashthi to Nabami, priding itself on being among the early custodians of Kolkata's community Durga Puja. Over the decades it has balanced tradition with progressive social consciousness, at times adopting challenging themes—such as child trafficking—that double as community education and welfare messaging.

Recognised within the UNESCO-acknowledged Durga Puja heritage of Kolkata, Kashi Bose Lane remains a respected neighbourhood institution: a gathering point where devotion, social awareness and North Kolkata's cultural continuity meet each autumn.
