About Kumartuli Park Sarbojanin Durgotsab Committee

Kumartuli Park Sarbojanin Durgotsav — Artisan District's Pride

Kumartuli Park Sarbojanin Durgotsab, established in 1992, is a relatively modern yet iconic puja in the artisan quarter of Kumartuli, North Kolkata, close to the Sovabazar ferry. Its location in the city's legendary clay-sculptor district gives it a deep connection to idol-making traditions.

The committee is renowned for pioneering, socially resonant themes. In 2024 it centred its pandal on "1, Garstin Place"—the historic All India Radio office—evoking broadcasting heritage; during the pandemic its "Man and Mask" theme reflected mask-wearing realities. Earlier themes honoured farmers and working-class women, reimagining Durga as a symbol of common resilience.

Seamlessly combining spiritual reverence with the celebratory artistry of Kumartuli's idol makers, the puja has set trends in pandal design. For 2025–26 it continues to blend traditional devotion with topical, culturally meaningful artistry.
